What's New in Calhoun County?

 Calhoun County School District Receives an Absolute Rating of Good and a Growth Rating of Excellent on State Report Card


Calhoun County School District established high expectations for students and they accepted the challenge! The 2011 School and District Report Card gives an absolute rating and a growth rating. Two ratings are assigned to schools. The ratings for absolute performance and growth are defined in Article 1 of the Education Accountability Act of 1998, Section 59-18-120:

  • Absolute performance means the rating a school will receive based on the percentage of students meeting standard on the state's standards based assessment.
  • Growth means the rating a school will receive based on longitudinally matched student data comparing current performance to the previous year's performance for the purpose of determining student academic growth.

    CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR TEACHER OF THE YEAR!!



    Mrs. Virginia (Becky) Haigler, a middle level science teacher at St. Matthews K-8 School has been named the District Teacher of the Year. Superintendent Steve Wilson surprised Mrs. Haigler during an instructional lesson with a dozen roses on September 20, 2011.
